Page break line in Draft view

In draft view in 2008 the page break (which frankly I can do without in draft view because it IS draft view) is a vivid and annoying bright blue. In Office 2007 on Windows it is a subtle, barely noticeable grey dashed line. I don't suppose anyone's found a way to turn down the volume on this thing. I do find myself missing Word 5.1 more and more as the years go by - as a mere writer this thing seems to gain complexity as it adds new features that get in the way of simple writing.

I don't think so. If you uncheck "background repagination" in Word |
Preferences | General, it's possible that fewer blue lines will show up.
I do think that it will probably stop annoying you in a while--that
tends to be the sort of thing our brain learns to tune out with some
practice.

Some people love WriteRoom, which is all about simple writing.

Sorry - That's something over which you have no control :-( I guess that
blue was chosen because it's more Mac-ish in the mind of someone.

Don't hesitate to use Help> Send Feedback to voice you preference. I, too,
would much rather see something more on the gray side or at least a darker
shade of blue even if they can't provide a choice for the user.

I have feedback for what it's worth. Thanks Daiya - I do know about WriteRoom but I'm a professional novelist dealing with manuscripts running to 140k words at times and it isn't up to that in my opinion. I tend to use Scrivener on a daily basis (http://www.literatureandlatte.com/) and I am also trying out Storyist (http://www.storyist.com/). But the truth is that whatever you use to produce your first draft you will be expected to deliver and edit in Word because that's the de facto standard in book publishing (at least with my publishers). It's a shame Microsoft seem so dismissive of the book field. The print view for me is marred by the ridiculous document elements boxes at the top which I'm never going to use and are just a waste of space.
