Page Breaks-Seeking Previous Post About

Hi,

A few days ago I read a post that discussed page breaks. One responder said
something about trying to avoid page breaks altogether ‹ something to that
effect. I've lost track of the discussion. Would someone please tell me
the Subject title to look for?

Thanks,

Rafael

Hi Rafael,

I don't remember a recent post but John McGhie has posted often in the past
about avoiding page breaks. Here's one I archived:

-------------
If a document is formatted correctly, text that should remain together on
the same page will do so (because it has been formatted with the "Keep With
Next" paragraph property). Text that should land at the top of a page will
(because it has been formatted with the "Page Break Before" paragraph
property). Paragraphs that should not be broken at the end of pages won't
(because they have been formatted with the "Keep Lines Together" paragraph
property.) And paragraphs that can be divided will split appropriately so
that at least two lines remain on either page (because they have been
formatted with the "Widow/Orphan" paragraph property).
------------

Will that do it?

And the point is that you should use these instructions, rather than using
manual page breaks. Word will constantly reflow text and you can't change
that, so instead of telling it "break after these words", you tell Word
"reflow the text according to these rules".

If you'd like more information, Rafael, have a look at 'Appendix A: The main
"minimum maintenance" features of my documents' on page 151 of some notes on
the way I use Word for the Mac, titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are
available as a free download from the Word MVPs' website
(http://word.mvps.org/MacWordNew/Bend/BendWord.htm).
