Page Count

I added a section break for page 3 and began numbering at 1. I want to have
page 1 of## and not count my first 2 pages. I can do it by typing the number
of pages ( page 1 of 9). Is there another way to do this so Word only counts
from my first page which is page 3??? Sorry if I rambled....

Hi S. Kissing,

The best approach, especially if your document has a Table of Contents, is to insert a 'Next page' Section break between pages 2 &
3. Then:
.. use the the Header/Footer toolbar to unlink the new Section's footer from the previous one
.. insert a page # field from the Header/Footer toolbar, and format the page # to start from 1. This takes care of the 'x' part of a
'page x of y' numbering scheme.
.. insert a Sectionpages field for the 'y' part of a 'page x of y' numbering scheme.

An alternative, but only if your document is all one Section and does not have a Table of Contents, is to take each of the 'x' and
'y' parts of the 'page x of y' numbering scheme and:
.. press Ctrl-F9 to enclose the 'x' or 'y' in another field (eg if you've got 'page 1 of 9', so that the '1' and '9' become { 1 } and
{ 9 }, respectively)
.. insert a formula around the '1' and '9' so that you end up with {=1-2 \# 0;;} and {=9-2 \# 0;;}, respectively
.. select each field and press F9 to update the display.
