{Page} field gives always 0 (zero)

BlankHello!
I was given a document with the following problem:

It has 3 pages and instead or writing
page 1/3
page 2/3
page 3/3
on each page, it writes:
page 0/3
page 0/3
page 0/3

I checked the field codes and they seem fine.
I used the Insert>Page Numbers...>Page Number Format > (Page Numbering) Start at: 1 but it still writes 0!!
It seems like it's stuck on that number. There are no sections on this document.
In addition this doesn't happen on a new document
I believe I have tried everything I could.
In case you have encountered the same problem/bug please be kind enough to provide me with a solution or workaround.
In case you have encountered the same problem but you don't have a solution, a simple mail of compassion would also help :)
