Page format in Word

Kay Schulz

Hi
I use the most current version of Office for Mac.
I want to create a page format. Possible.
But I cannot find out where I can define the
papersize. It is the same as the page format.
I can choose different sizes, but I cannot define
the paper size somewhere? Any idea?
Anyway: I want to print on success senior page and
hoped there would be .dot files. But couldn't find
them either.
Thanks for your help

Hi Kay-

To define a custom paper size, go to Page Setup, open the list for
'Settings:' (where it probably says 'Page Attributes' by default. Choose
'Custom Paper Size' & specify your dimensions. Define the other aspects of
the document and Save As a Document Template instead of a Word Document.

I'm not clear on the part that begins "Anyway: I want to print...", but hope
this information is useful.

Hi thanks
I found this one and it is not what I meant. Sorry
for my poor english.
If I want to print I can choose US size, A4, A5.
And when I do as you suggest it takes this, but
wants to print it onto an A4.
But I do not want to priont on A4, I want to print
on something I define
This is only possible, as far as I know, to do via
Textedit
There I can define new papersizes. I haven't found
this one in Word

No, it's possible. Go through CyberTaz's instructions again, step by step.
You should be able to enter numbers for a custom paper size, say 6 inches by
6 inches.

If it doesn't work, say exactly at what step you get different results. If
it doesn't work with "Format for:" set to your printer, try it with "Format
for:" set to Any Printer.

I'm thinking Kay's looking for the preinstalled templates that come with
Word?

There are some in the File | Project Gallery dialog, but you do have the
option of not installing them, so it's possible yours were not installed?

There are more templates at MS's Mactopia site:
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/resources/templates.aspx?pid=templates

And you can use the templates from the general MS template site, you just
can't open most of them because they download in a .cab compressed file that
doesn't work on macs.

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/default.aspx

But if you have access to a windows machine or a friend, once the file is
opened you should be able to use it fine on the Mac.

Indeed
Avery has some
Senior success does not

I guess I installed all.
But the ones there do not fit my needs
I will check this.
In my case, I think I saw that avery publishes
them on their site
I hoped success would do the same

I have virtual PC and a PC in my office I could
use for this

But if you have access to a windows machine or a friend, once the file is
opened you should be able to use it fine on the Mac.
So I will try this

Hi
ok I go through it step by step. But I have to
translate, because I do not use an english version.
I open Word.app
I go on File->New Empty Document
I go on File->Page Setup
I choose Setup (the upper most list)
I choose Adapt paper size
I choose user defined and enter width and heigth
I click on OK
Word changes and shows the new setup in View->Page
Layout Mode
I type my text
I go on print
I see: Printer and a list of printers
And I see Preferences and a list commencing with
Standard
I click on preview. It shows not what I want, it
shows my text on a A4 page. I go back to the print
dialog
I do not see where I can choose the paper I want
to use, A4 or A5 or US Letter size
I go on Setup Page (below the preview)
I see Paperformat
Perefeces: List with Page setup, paper format
Format for
and Papersize
Papersize is set to A4, whatever I configure
in Adap Paper Size. It takes the paper size and
tries to print it on an A4 paper.
The paper size list shows me
A4
A5
jis B5
US Letter size
and so on.
And a line
Below the line, user defined paper sizes (I did
with older Office versions or got them from
someone else).
But I cannot see where I can create some of them
on my own.
There I could choose success senior.

If I open up Textedit
I can say
File->Paperformat
Adapt Paper Size and I can create my onw, with
width, heigth, borders etc.
But from Word I cannot.

I didn't realize Senior Success was a program that offered labels or
something. Never heard of Senior Success. Have you checked their website
for downloadable templates?

Okay, googled the newsgroup and got it. Word lets you define a custom paper
size but for some reason the printer driver doesn't pick it up, it's all
very complicated, I don't know how that all works. Both the File | Page
Setup and File | Print dialogs are tricky because they depend on Word, the
OS, and the printer driver software that communicates with the printer, they
aren't just Word alone.

But there is a fix--a previous poster said this:
If you create the custom paper size in TextEdit, and save it, next time you
launch Word, that custom paper size will appear at the bottom of the paper
sizes in the File | Page Setup dialog. You don't even have to mess with
custom paper size in that dialog, it appears as a built-in option. Then the
File | Print picks it up too (at least as far as I can tell, the Quick
Preview looks right but I don't have anything to actually try printing)

So sounds like you already created your preferred paper size in TextEdit, so
if you quit and relaunch Word, those sizes should show up in the File | Page
Setup dialog.

Let us know what happens.

Hi
precisely.
I did this and wondered why word couldn't do it
Or my PrintCenter.
Only TextEdit.
Very strange

Precisely what? I have replicated your steps on my machine, found the same
problem you did, and then found a solution, which I gave to you.

So is your problem now fixed? After defining the paper size in TextEdit,
are you able to select it in Word? Or are you still having problems?

If you were just wondering *why* it has to be done that way, haven't a clue.

Yep, it does.

Maybe, Kay, but I make my living because too many people fail to wonder long
enough before asking (or speaking!). ;-)

What's the papersize? Conceivably your printer can't handle it, so it's
greyed out.

Hi Kay:

You want the reason?

TextEdit is a full Cocoa application that takes advantage of the latest
settings available from the Apple print routines. Apple has brought out a
whole lot of updates since Word was made.

Adding them to Word will happen eventually, but it's not a "small" or
"simple" change.

Cheers

Yep, it does.
