Page indicator in status bar fails to update automatically

In my copy of Word 2004, the "Page" indicator in the status bar along
the bottom margin does not keep up with the actual document. For
example, it continues to say "Page 2," even when I have written 4
pages. Only once I go into "Print Preview" mode and then return to a
normal view of the document does it give an accurate reading. Not a
big problem, obviously, but an annoyance. I think it started happening
recently, though I've used the program since late May 2004. The same
thing used to happen with Word 5.1.

I'm still on v.X. If you want to see the numbers increase as you work,
preferences -> View then check both 'status bar' and 'live word count'
in the 'Window' section.

I can't believe they would have ripped that out for 2004. Enabling live
word count may slow down your Word a little. I wouldn't know. I work in
permapageview which keeps the status bar updated regardless of the live
word count preference setting.

Hi Frank,

In addition to what Elliott said . . .

Do you normally view your document in Normal or Page Layout view? Word does
not accurately paginate in Normal view but it does in Page Layout view,
which closely echoes what will happen when you print. Unless you tell it to
do so (by switching views or going to Print Preview), Word doesn't care
about pagination. It's best to work in Normal view, however, since Word
will go faster there; but you can always switch to Page Layout view for
accurate pagination.
