Are all your sections password-protected by any chance? At the top does
it say if there are any sections skipped?

have never used the password feature yet, so don't imagine that's it.
Doesn't say any sections are skipped. Any other suggestions?

And you can see pages with content on the screen before you click View |
Page List? There are page tabs with titles?

How about if you create a new page with some sample text on it? Then redo
your Page List.

well for some reason this time (and it's a secondary issue of why it happened
now, and not when I answered earlier to your question) there is definitely a
number of sections skipped (14156880...is that really how many sections there
can be, given I just started using this thing and my tree structure is not
that large), and it matches the number of password protected sections.

I had never even looked at password protection options until you asked about
them in the previous post, so I have no idea how that would have been turned
on, enabled for that many pages (unless you can just mass-protect all pages
at some point or set an option to do so), nor do I know how to turn it off.

What to do?

Thx.

Look in Tools | Options | Open and Save and write down the path listed
under "My Notebook".

The go to Explorer and find that location under "My Computer". Are there
any *.ONE files present in that location?

B

BorisS

The path is the one that I set, and it's the one that links to my briefcase
on the laptop (in case that matters), so that I end up using the same folder
between the two, and they're updated back and forth.

All the .one files are there, including their folder paths. Just in case, I
checked one of the files, and there doesn't seem to be any external password
protection (didn't know if that was even possible).

With all that, the notebook is still showing they're all password protected.

Any further help?

How do you know these files seem password protected?

What happens when you double-click on one of these *.ONE files from
Explorer?

Does the file open up in ON with data and several pages that you
recognize?
Does the section file open up with a "shortcut" arrow in its name?

B

BorisS

How do you know these files seem password protected?
opposite. seems like they're not, and that was just judging by going into
the properties for the files, where I thought I had seen (in files in
general) an option for password protection. I was just saying that I didn't
see any of that.
What happens when you double-click on one of these *.ONE files from
Explorer?
opens to the page that it's supposed to be at, with all data. It's
certainly the right stuff in this structure.
Does the file open up in ON with data and several pages that you
recognize?
Does the section file open up with a "shortcut" arrow in its name?
no shortcuts. These are the files. In the briefcase on the laptop, I could
imagine it might have some sort of indirect path, but even there it's still
pointing to a live file, which then happens to synch up to the desktop
(overwriting each other depending on direction of xfer). But here, it's
definitely the actual file, and the options in Notebook point to this area as
the place to look for them.

I am stumped, and it's sounding like I'm stumping the judges. Not good
news. :)

Well I unchecked the options under tools for passwords which says "lock after
x time." That seemed to do the trick, when I closed and reopened, and then
kept doing the trick after I changed the option back to 'on' and closed and
reopened.

That said, I am a little confused as to why this would have happened (the
problem I was having). Is there some code level that I'm not seeing which
password protects without my knowing? Again, I know I didn't set any
passwords yet.

Anyway, if you know, let me know. If not, don't want to bother you with
this any more. Thanks for the patience till now.

I'm going to guess that the problem has to do with the .ONE files being
located in a briefcase. I'll run it by some of the OneNote team this week
and see what their thoughts are.

I spoke too soon. I was on the desktop when I thought I got working. Now am
at the laptop at work, and have found that at least 20 pages are not showing
up there. They are in a particular folder, but I have not done anything with
assigning passwords, so don't know why these seem to stand out. On the
laptop, they are coming from the briefcase. I tested going into the
briefcase directly and selecting the section from there, and it launches in
ON. No clue again as to the rhyme and reason behind this page list.

If there is a better way to keep two sets of notebook synched up, let me
know. I know someone else had suggested (on the issue of how to get my
favorites and history for IE to by synched) that I use offling files. Was ON
maybe built on the assumption that people don't use briefcase anymore, and so
was configured more to synched files? I am willing to try that, if your
folks think it will help.

Out of curiousity...if you go to Tools | Options | Other do you have
"Enhance Search by skipping remote sections" checked?

Bingo!

Now if you have a way scroll down the page list view (cannot see all the
stuff below, and no scroll bar), that would seal the deal.

Hmmm....how do you know there is stuff below if you can't scroll down? If
you re-sort the page list view does that help?

good question. I only know it's there because if I reverse the order of sort
and do by title, the names that the one view ends with are before the names
that start the reverse view (in other words, I see there is a 'v' title, but
don't see that when it's sort a-z. As to your point, I can certainly resort,
but at some point, I am limited to whatever number of lines that window can
hold in a sort, and I either get the top part of the alphabet with that many
lines, or the bottom.

Any help?

Well...and no scroll bar at all? When I get a page list from a search
that is too long I get a scroll bar on the right and can get to the stuff
below.

What if you collapse some of the groups? Within each letter (sorted
alphabetically) or section (sorted that way) you should be able to click
the minus sign in the group header to collapse it. Does that help at all?

doesn't help. I can minimize all of them, but still only see the amount
which fits in that window.
