Page not jumping to scroll position

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Is there any development on this "bug" issue in word that only appears to be affecting several of us...with no solution posted? Mine is the same problem as the post below... (I am fully updated in all areas, and "spaces" is not turned on."

"Normally when clicking in an app's scroll bar "space", not on the scroll button itself, the scroll bar jumps to that position and the document jumps to the corresponding page. In Word 08 this is not happening. The scroll button jumps but the document remains in the same position until you slightly move the scroll button itself. Can't find a Preference to deal with this. Is this a bug, intended, am I missing something?"

Sorry, I can't reproduce that problem.

I have no idea what to suggest.

What display settings are you using? (Which View are you in, what Zoom
setting, how many pages per window?)

Cheers

No offense, Evan, but are you sure you aren't confusing Word with some other
program's behavior? In any recent version I've used [Mac or PC] clicking on
the scroll bar is the equivalent of pressing Page Up/Page Down. Both methods
bring the next portion of the document into the viewing area. -- the
difference being that clicking the scroll bar doesn't cause the insertion
point to move. The 'distance' traveled is dependent on Zoom & window size.

Navigating from page 6 to page 26 without having to work through the
intervening content, for example, is accomplished by dragging the scroll bar
button. The number of the page to be displayed when you release the button
is indicated in a yellow tip box as you drag.

Just to be certain I've checked the behavior in Word 2004, 2008 & 2003 using
several documents of various lengths. The result is as described above in
all versions & I'm certain it's the same in 2007 as well.

Yeah, it's definitely Word. I know it sounds ridiculous.

Let me be clear on one thing though...It does allow me to select the scroll bar and navigate up or down the pages of the document. I'm just also used to being able to hit the "dead space" where the scroll bar is not and have it jump down to that place. It honestly makes no sense...and what's really weird is that it has done this now ever since I updated to 2008...through multiple product updates.

It's so random that I can imagine it would be hard for someone else to just reproduce on their own. I'm not sure what else I can try with deleting preferences list or something?

Thanks

Hi Evan:

No, Word won't "jump down to that page" on a "click".

You have to "click and hold" and wait for it to scroll to there.

Use Command + g to go to a specified page number: that will jump straight
there. Or as you have been doing: drag...

Cheers
