Page number / pagination problem

D

dereks

I have a Word document that was written in Word 2000. In the header on
each page there is a page number using the {PAGE} field. The document
contains a couple of longish tables and about 8 images from screen
dumps or cameras, and is 31 pages long.

When I page up or down in the document, it repaginates 2 or 3 times
every time, which becomes very slow by the end of the document.

The main things that I notice are:

1. the page numbers (from the {PAGE} field) show zero on all pages, but
this is only in Print mode - Normal and Outline are ok.
2. I have tried deleting the {PAGE} field and reinserting it, but the
problem re-occurs.
3. {NUMPAGES} works ok.
4. The TOC shows all page numbers as zero. However they do link
correctly when using CTRL + mouse click.
5. When I have the curser over the TOC the message to CTRL + click etc.
flashes as if some process is constantly being run on the document.
(There are no macros etc. showing in VB.)

Thanks in advance - this is driving me batty.
