Page numbering between landscape and portrait pages

F

Frustrated in UK

Hi, I am a technophobe! I am on my last legs (literally!) of completing my
PhD but have 2 issues I cannot solve:
(1) I cannot get the page numbering to be continuous when there are section
breake due to page set up changes (portrait to landscape). i also have extra
pages which dont show in normal view but do in print view. I have checked
similiar threads on here and have followed a link to a document but I CAN NOT
understand what it is I am supposed to do!
(2) My document needs to be open and repaired each time before I can view it
(it's ok on my laptop which is where I have done most of the work but when I
send it to my supervisors they struggle. Why is this? can the document be
permanently repaired?
Many thanks for any advice - please make it suitable for a 'dummies guide'

Make sure that you have "Continue from previous section" selected in Format
Page Number in each section. The invisible blank pages are most likely
caused by Odd Page section breaks ending your landscape sections. Most
printers don't like to print Portrait on the back of Landscape, and Word
accommodates them by changing your Next Page break to Odd Page. You may be
able to change this by going to the Layout tab of Page Setup for the section
*after* the blank page and changing the section start type from Odd Page to
New Page.

Hi Suzanne,

I am using MS Word 2003 and I have the same problem as Frus in UK and I've
been trying to solve it for more than a week now. I am trying to do your
recommendation below but I can't find that "Continue from previous section"
setup. My page numbers are in my Footer. I tried to look for that setup in
all tabs in Page Setup with no luck. There is one setup in Layout tab in
Page Setup where "Continues" can be selected from Section start. I've tried
it but it still did not work. I hope you can help. Thanks in advance.

The page numbering option that you are referring to is in the Page Number
Format dialog box. To open the dialog box, click the Format Page Number
button on the Header and Footer toolbar. Also, note that the settings in the
dialog box must be specified separately for each Word section.
