Page numbering gone bad

I just noticed Word is printing page of pages incorrectly. It prints 1 of 1,
2 of 2, 3 of 3, etc. even for old documents that were printed correctly
previously. I have tried a number of things, like replacing the footer
numbering again using autotext, inserting page and pages with word "of" and
performing repair of Word from disk.
Print preview shows the numbering correctly (1 of 8, 2 of 8, etc.). Has
anyone a clue to what may be causing this?

I just started having exactly the same problem with Word 2003.

I guess numbering pages 1 of 1, 2 of 2, etc is a new undocumented
feature of that Mr. Bill and company included in one of their
automatic updates because it didn't start happening to me until this
week!

Were you able to correct this problem?
