page numbering in footer changed; reads {page}{number} where is #

All of a sudden when in footer, selecting auto text insert to have pages say,
Page 1 of 12, it gives Page (PAGE)of(NUMPAGES) instead of "Page 1 of12".
What happened, never had this come up before.

Press Alt+F9 to switch between display of field codes (what you
see now) and field results.
