page numbering in footer

Word 2000: If I have several section breaks in a document
because of using columns back and forth, the footer page
numbers get all messed up. It will go 1, 2, then back to
1 again. Any ideas?

At some point you must have set the numbering to "Start at 1." You need to
change this to "Continue from previous section." If a section is in the
middle of a page, it can be difficult to access the Format Page Number
dialog (since the section has no header or footer), and that's where the
problem often lies. Place the insertion point in this section and go to
Insert | Page Numbers... Click the Format... button, make the change, click
OK, and then be careful to click Close rather than OK in the Insert Page
Numbers dialog.
