Page numbering in footer

We've recently "upgraded" to Windows XP & Office XP in my
company. I'm having a problem printing Word documents
with "Page X of Y" in the footer - I get Page 1 of 1,
Page 2 of 2, Page 3 of 3, etc. This is especially
irrating when reading through a very long document &
never knowing where I am - a third finished, half way,
more, etc! I've downloaded the latest printer driver for
my color laser HP 4550DN thinking that might be help but
I still have the problem.

HELP!

Knowledge Base Article 835226 addresses this. Turning
off background printing worked for me.(Tools, Options,
Print, then Clear the "Background Printing" check box.)
This seems to be from one of their "fixes." Hopefully,
they'll fix the fix!

We have the same problem and have found this work around
takes care of the immediate problem but we have found no
premanent fix:

Open the document. Scroll up and down untill the page
numebts appear corrrectly on the screen. Go to Print
preview and print the document. Page numbers on the hard
copy now match the page numbers on the screen.

Although i tis not a permanent fix at least your document
is now correct.

Until you next print :) Set "Print in reverse order" and the printing will
be correct every time. It's a new iteration of an old bug that seems to have
returned with Office XP SP 3.
