page numbering problem

I have a problem driving me crazy...I have along doc (100
pages)that includes a table of contents....I would like
the page numbering to include the chapter #, i.e. 1-1, 2-
1, 3-1....according to all the directions and everyone who
has looked at the doc it is set up correctly but I am only
getting the page #'s...I did get the section breaks in so
that the page 3's begin over at 1 for each chapter...but i
still cannot get the chapter # as part of the page....any
ideas, anyone?

OK, tried that (at least it was different from everything
else i have tried) but it didn't work?!?

Do your chapters begin with an outline-numbered heading in one of Word's
built-in heading styles?
