page numbering

I get two page numbers printed out on every page,
although I only want one (and Word only allows you to
pick one). Any suggestions?

Perhaps one was inserted via the Header/Footer toolbar
(the correct way) and one is in a text box. Try clicking
on and slightly around each one, and if you get a
rectangular frame around one of them, click on it and
delete it.
