page numbering

I would like to add consecutive page numbers to multiple worksheets in one workbook so that the consecutive numbers actually display on the screen. Right now, the numbering is correct on the first tab which ends at page 8. When I click on the second day, 10 is displayed rather than 9, and on consecutive tabs each is page 1.

Is there a way to do it so that the correct numbers are displayed (not just printed)?

I don't know of any way that can be done. Excel worksheets are "separate
entities", not continuations of one another. Even if there is a way it would
have to involve the use of VBA which isn't supported in 2008.

If you print multiple sheets or an entire workbook the page numbering is
continuous only because pagination is imposed by the printer... Essentially,
the number of sheets of paper required to handle the output is counted at
the time. Despite the [false] impression that it gives, Print Layout View is
a bit deceptive as there are no actual 'pages' in a workbook, so page
numbering is not absolute.

IOW, if there are 3 pages of content on Sheet1 & 3 pages of content on
Sheet2 they'll be numbered 1-6 if you print both sheets. However, if you
print only Sheet1 or print only Sheet2 there are no pages 4-6, and if you
just print Sheet2 its pages become 1-3 -- since Sheet1 isn't included in the
print job its number of would-be pages don't factor into the count.
