page numbering

I can't get the numbers on the odd pages to show up on my 292 paged ms. Help!

If they do show up, then they continue past the last page on the blank pages at the end.

Two issues:

1) If you place a page number in the right-hand footer, it will appear on
right-hand pages.

2) There is no such thing as a "blank" page in Word. It must have
"something" on it, or it wouldn't exist.

This is a difficult concept to understand (or at least, I found it so). In
a Word document, there are no pages at all: only text. When Word has to
"output" the document (to the screen, or to a printer) it "invents" the
pages on the fly. But they don't exist in the file.

Word fills a page, then looks to see if it has any text left. If it has, it
fills another page, then looks to see if there is any text left... This
process continues until Word runs out of text.

Then it stops inventing pages, and there's your document.

So: You have page breaks or paragraph marks or something at the end of the
document, creating those pages.

If you want pages that have no page number, you need to:

1) Add a SECTION break.

2) Go into the Footer

3) Turn OFF "Same as Previous" in the footer.

4) Then remove the page number.

The headers and footers and page numbering are controlled by Section Breaks.

Hope this helps
