Hi
I have been writing a manual that is now almost 200 pages long, using basic
formatting and table of contents, numerical page numbering (starting from
table contents.
I would like to change the page numbering so that each major header
(category)can have its own page numbering sequence
eg:
Debtors Processes
Invoicing DP 1
Receipts DP 3
Creditors Processes
Processing invoices CP 1
.....
.....
Making Payments CP25
Stock
Receving Stock St 1

Can anyone help with some guidance as to if an how this can be effected with
all the information contained in the one word document - previous searches
have indicated that I need to process each header or section as an individual
document.
This is not preferable, as the purpose of renumbering is that there are
master copies of the manual, but relevant people can receive just sections of
the manual, but with pages in sequence.

Many thanks for your help

If you insert a Section Break between each category, you can (Via the Format
Page Number dialog) set the page numbering in each section to re-start at 1,
If you unlink the Header/Footer in each Section from that in the previous
Section, you can then have the insert the apha characters that go with each
category.

It is not however possible to have the table of contents pick up those alpha
characters.

Thanks - your info was absolutely sopt on - even a novice like me was able
to get it working.

one more question for you, using the auto table of contents format and
sections and page numbering, can I also hyperlink the table of contents so
that we can click on an item and go straight there??

Thanks again

By default, the Table of Contents entries are hyperlinked. Use Ctrl+Left
Click to go to one of the items.
