Page Numbers across Multiple Documents

I went to
http://homepage.swissonline.ch/cindymeister/NbrFAQ.htm#PgOverDc
to get the instructions on setting up fields for automatic page
numbering across multiple documents. It worked great for connecting
doc 2 to doc 1. However, now when I try to make doc 3 go in
succession, I get nothing. I've tried doing it a couple different
ways.
Right now - I've got this for my footnote fields:

{ { PAGE } + { INCLUDETEXT "C:\\Location of file\\File name1.doc"
Sect1 \* CharFormat \! \* MERGEFORMAT } + {INCLUDETEXT "C:\\Location
of file\\File name2.doc" Sect2 \* CharFormat \! \*MERGEFORMAT }}

(The "\* MERGEFORMAT"s that are there put themselves into the code. I
have tried deleting them, and it still gives me the same thing - just
a blank space at the bottom.)

I've done it this way to add the Page # of Document 3 + Total page
numbers of document 1 + Total page numbers of document 2.

I tried putting the field in at the end of document 2 so it would add
doc1+doc2 and then the footer at the bottom of Doc 3 would add this
total to the page #. And it gave me a blank also.

I'm guessing this has something to do with the 'hidden' format -
however, I cannot seem to make this text appear. I've tried unhiding
things, rehiding, hiding one and not the other, etc. And still
nothing.

Help??!! anyone??

Thanks,
Laurie
