PAGE NUMBERS AND FOOTERS

First, turn OFF the caps lock. Messages in all caps are *outrageously*
difficult to read and in news/email messages it is the equivalent of
shouting. Consequently it is considered rude & inconsiderate.

Secondly, I'm not at all sure what you mean by "A CENTER PAGE NUMBER " or
how you would "align [one] with a footer". It would be appreciated if you
would clarify exactly what it is you're having difficulty with. I'm certain
someone can help, but we can't see over your shoulder. All we have to go on
is what you describe.

Finally, when you reply with a more detailed description of your problem
please indicate which version of Office you're using & which version of Mac
OS X - it can sometimes make a difference in what suggestions should be
offered.

I apologize to everyone for my "rudeness and inconsideration". I am doing a huge file of minutes. My page numbers are in the center at the bottom of the page. I have added a "footer" with the month and year. For example: February 2008 28. I would like for the footer and page number to be on the same "line" but have not been able to do this.

I am using a Mac Powerbook 2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Du, OS 10.5.2, and Word X. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

First, select the page number you have and delete it. Your problem is that
the page number is "floating" outside the footer.

There's two ways of doing page numbers: the one in the Help is wrong.

1) Go to View>Header and Footer...

2) Click in the Footer

3) Insert>Page Numbers

Now, you will need to put a TAB ahead of the page number to hold the page
number centred in the footer.

You may need to use Format>Style... To set a Tab stop in the footer style at
the midpoint of the footer. Chances are, it is already there unless you
changed it (it's a default).

Hope this helps

Someone more knowledgeable will undoubtedly chime in, but since you seem
to be in need of help and haven't received an answer for a while:

Put your page numbers in the footer on the same line as the date, not
separately outside the footer.

I see that the issue has been amply handled for you, but just wanted to let
you know that you weren't being considered rude or inconsiderate:) Many
people simply don't realize the point - especially if new to newsgroups, so
I simply wanted to make you aware of the circumstances.

The fact that you were kind enough to respond as appropriately as you did
definitely cleanses you of any stigma:)
