Page numbers are not displayed properly when we protect the document for Comment

Hello Everyone,

I have a MS Word document in which I have page numbers (1,
2, 3, etc.) for all the pages. When I protect the document
for Comments.my page numbers on all the pages are set to
that page number from which I have protected the document.
For example, if I have 10 pages in my document.and assume
that my cursor is on page 5.. now if I protect the
document.page numbers on all the pages are set to 5.

I need my document to be protected for Comments and to
display correct page numbers.
Can anyone help me in this regard?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you,
Vasanthi

G'day "Vasanthi" <[email protected]>,

Did you insert the page numbers with Insert > Field > Page rather
than Insert > Pagenumbers... ???

Hello Steve,

Thanks for your reply.
I haven't tried Insert-->field...I had my page numbers
inserted using Insert-->Page Numbers-->....and format--
continue from the previous section.
I have a query...if we use Insert-->field-->Page....do we
need to repeat the same for each page or is it enough if
we do it on the first page?

Vasanthi.

You don't need to use Insert | Field at all. When you are in the
header/footer pane, there is an Insert Page Number button on the Header and
Footer toolbar that will do this for you. You need do it only once per
header/footer. If you have more than one section and they're all linked
(Same as Previous is enabled), you need do it only once unless you have more
than one header in the section (you can have up to three: First Page, Even
Page, Odd Page).

G'day "Vasanthi" <[email protected]>,

I have seen numerous problems with the Insert > Page Numbers method,
use the graphic arrow (Draw menu) to select and destroy. The page
field needs to insert it in the different headers and footers which
then replicate to every page. Suzanne's tip is the way to go though,
the H&F toolbar is the easiest way of doing it.
