Page numbers/images in grey boxes

G

Glynn

Hi,
I'm doing my dissertation at the moment, and for some
reason the page numbers appear highlighted in grey, as
well as some images.
Any thoughts?

The grey shading indicates fields (a page number is a { PAGE } field). This
is controlled on the View tab of Tools | Options.

It did it because the default setting for fields - of which the page number
is one - are displayed with a shaded background, so that it is easy to spot
that the entry *is* a field. As Suzanne has indicated you can change the
display behaviour. The shading does not print.

That said, this is one of the settings that Word has a nasty habit of
changing behind your back. I often find that after I have opened "foreign"
documents (ones received from other users), my shading setting (which is
normally set to "When selected") has been reset to "Always."
