Page numbers in pdf files

Using Word X and Panther when I save a file as a pdf file there are no page
numbers on it (at least on looking at it, I haven't tried to print one).
Will they not be there when printed? Is there some way to make them appear
when viewing them on the computer (I want that)?

I bet you hit the margins mismatch nonsense that Word does so well.
When you print to PDF Word/Mac has a printer in mind.

In my experience if the page numbers are off page on the pdf, they will
be off the page when it is printed too.

You could try selecting a different printer before printing to PDF.
The only guaranteed way is to fix up your margins in Word till it works.
