Page Numbers in Proposal

I haver a paper where I just want to have the first 3 pages to be in
roman numeral, like i, ii, and iii, but then I want the rest of the
paper to start at 1, 2, 3, and so on. I cant figure out how to get
Word to page number this way. It always wants to start from the
beginning and in only one format using the page number option...

Any ideas???? Thanks for your help!!

Use the following field construction

{ IF { PAGE } < 4 { PAGE \* roman } { = { PAGE } - 1 \* Arabic } }

You must use Ctrl+F9 to insert each pair of field delimiters { } and Alt +
F9 to toggle off their display.

Alternatively, insert a Section Break before the fourth page and use the
Format Page Number button on the Headers and Footers toolbar to set the
style of numbering in each section and to get the second section to commence
numbering from 1

Yes, I just seperated the sections with a "next" section page break,
and formatted the two different page number headers. Thank you for
