Greetings:
I recently encountered the following problem with a small
(12 page) document:
The TOC was updated after editing the doc, the file saved,
and then closed. Re-opening the document a few minutes
later, we found that the TOC page numbers were all zeros.
We tried updating just the page numbers and then the whole
TOC, but the results were always the same. The proper page
numbers would appear in the TOC, but if the file was
closed and then re-opened, the numbers would all be zeros.
The page numbers themselves (in the footer of each page)
remained stable throughout. Even so, we stripped out the
entire contents of each footer and started fresh, but no
luck.
The doc itself had "been around the block", with many
hands leaving their own mark. We cleaned up as much
unecessary formatting and style changes as we could, but
in the end, that darn TOC just kept mocking us!
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
