What happened when you tried to delete the building blocks template? Did you
see an error message? Note that Word should be closed when you delete the
file.

It went into the recycle bin and was deleted from there. Did I make a
mistake by deleting the folder instead of the file?

It did not reappear even after a boot up.

I tried The Word Diagnostics to no avail.

I tried a repair from the Office disk ,also without success> I shall try a
partial reinstall and see what happens unless you have other advice.

Thanks for getting back so promptly

Tried uninstalling word then reinstalling no luck except that I now get the
message Building block.dotx is locked for editing by (me)with 3 options.

1 open a read only copy
2 create a local copy and merge your changes later
3 receive notification when original is available

choosing the radio button for 2 allows me to put in page numbers. I just
have to choose this each time

This workaround will do for now

Cheers hope this helps someone else

Delete the file again, with Word closed, and see if it works. Note that
uninstalling Word or Office usually does not fix these kind of issues.

Hi Stefan

Thanks for your help. I do remember Word crashing while I was inserting the
page number. I suppose I could have copied the text out and saved the new
doc with a different name.

Instead I went hunting for all the temp files I could find. I eventually
came across /doctemp. Google, live search and ask did not enlighten me so I
deleted all the subfolders and YEAH it worked again.

It is an important function as I write a hospital support group newsletter
and to save costs I print double-sided and it helps folks to keep track more
easily.

thanks again

Best wishes
