PAGE NUMBERS NOT LINING UP

I have entered the automatic page numbers in the footer of a document, but
for some reason, they are not lining up with the rest of the footer. For
instance, the left footer is where it needs to be, the center footer is where
it needs to be but the right footer (page number) is up higher (or lower) in
the footer than the rest. Why and what can I do to fix it?

In cases such as this one, the usual culprit is some undesired contents
(such as one or more blank paragraphs or tab characters) in the footer,
causing the contents to "shift." You may find it helpful to display
nonprinting marks, for example by pressing Ctrl+Shift+8.
