page numbers not printing correctly

Page numbering is not printing correctly when printing a multi page document
in Word. When using either the print icon, or from within the 'file' menu,
the pages print as; 1 of 1, 2 of 2, 3 of 3, etc. When printing from the
print preview, the numbers print correctly. 1 of 3, or 1 of 71, etc. In
the document itself the numbering appears correctly. Any ideas? TIA PaulG

You didn't say what version of Word you're using but I
know this was a problem with Word 97. As I recall (and
I'm getting kind of old, so I don't recall so good these
days), if you turn off background printing under
Tools/Options/Print, this problem resolves itself.

I just caught this thread myself.

The page number bug was corrected in the SR-1 patch for Office 2000.

You can use the Office Product Updates site and use the Scan utility
to find any needed updates:
http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx

Or you can download the patches manually. Here is some info on how to
obtain all of the updates for Office 2000:

O2K SR1:

O2K SP2:
