Page numbers restart after each section

I have a document of just over 100 pages. The first 92 pages are in
two sections. Then there are a whole bunch of little sections all much
smaller than a page (e.g., 4 sections per page). When I add page
number in the footer all is OK until page number 93. From then on the
page numbers restart with 2.

Consider for example Section 7. It spans two pages. It starts on Page
93/104; at the bottom of the window it says "Page 93 Sec 7 93/104".
As I move the cursor over the dotted line that indicates the page break
(automatic not forced) the display changes to "Page 2 Sec 7 94/104". I
suppose that is to indicate that this is page 2 for Sec 7 and 94 in the
document. Fine. However then in the footer of that page it displays
the 2 rather than the 94. How do I make it show a 94 there?

The section breaks are "continuous".

The sections all specify for the page number to continue from previous
section.

What gives?

I would try resetting the page numbers--View | Header/Footer, and use the
header/footer toolbar to click through each section, and in each section,
hit the Format Page Number and make sure every one is set to "continue from
previous section."

However, Word does occasionally get confused about pagination and continuous
section breaks, and sometimes all you can do is delete the continuous
section break and recreate it.
