page numbers

Hello. I've done something that caused Word to insert page numbers in
BOTH the upper right and lower right corners of a draft report. I want
the numbers in the lower right but not the upper right. I can't figure
out how to get rid of the upper right numbers. Can anyone help? Thank
you.

View>Header and Footer...

The running headers and footers are in a different "Text Story" to the Body
Text. You need to open that window, then you can access both.

Cheers

Thank you John. Sorry to be so dense, but what is a "text story" and
where can I find directions to do this? I tried searching Word help
but it only talked about inserting tables and text boxes. Thank you
for your patience.

I thought I gave you the instructions? " View>Header and Footer..."

Those are the instructions :) Go to the View menu in Word and choose the
Header and Footer item. All will become clear to you when you do that.

The running headers (three of them in each section) and the running footers
(three of those too) are held in a different container in the file, known as
a "text story".

That's so the text of he header or footer can be held only once in the file,
yet printed as if it were on each page. It isn't, it's in the Headers and
Footers story.

When you want to fiddle with them, you need to open that story. If you are
in Page Layout view, you can double-click the header or footer to open it.
In other views, use the menu...

Once you are in the header and footer story, you will then be able to select
the page number field and have your wicked way with it!

Cheers
