Page Numbers

Doug

I have a documents I print out duplexed and want my page numbers to
alternate in the footer to opposite sides of the page so that the number
is always on the 'outside' of the page.

I haven't been able to find a solution. Often it's using the proper
keyword search in help but I must be missing it.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you are printing on both sides (duplexing) "outside" to you might
be "inside" to me! Anyway, I suggest you try the following:

After you remove any existing page numbering ...

1. With your cursor at the top of the document, select File->Page
Setup.

2. On the Layout tab, check "Different Odd and Even" Headers and
footers. Click OK to return to your document.

3. Select View->Header and Footer. Using the toolbar, click the
Switch between Header and Footer icon (4th from the right!)

4. You will see the "Odd Page Footer". Position your cursor where you
want the number to be (if you want it on the far right, press the tab
key twice), then click the # sign on the toolbar (or press
Ctrl+Shift+P) to insert the page number.

5. Click the "Show Next" button, and you will see "Even Page footer";
insert your page number, as you did in 4. - but on the opposite side.

That's exactly what I was looking for... knew I had to be missing it...
and the nerve, putting in plain site like that :)
