Have a look in View>Zoom...
Each document will open at the zoom level you last closed it at.
You can open your Normal.dotm template, set a zoom, add and delete one
character, then close and save it. All new documents you create will then
adopt the new settings.
You can set your default document margins in Format>Document.
Your Normal.dotm template may be corrupted (this can happen during
installation). You may be better off to junk it.
1) Quit Word
2) Drag Normal.dotm to the desktop
3) When Word restarts, it will create a clean new Normal.dotm.
Then delete the one on your desktop.
Hope this helps
When I updated Word from 2004 to 2008 my document prints out with tiny font
and huge margins. When I printed with Word 2004 I did not have this problem.
How do I reformat my document in Word 2008 to match the format size of 2004?
I've reentered the exact font and type size, but the page size doesn't change;
I feel like I need a magnifying glass to read the printout.
