Page settings not saving

I've read a number of threads about some page setup settings not saving in Excel Mac 2008.

This is a MAJOR issue. Is it resolved? Is there a work-around? When will it be fixed?

Are you experiencing the problem? If so, what settings aren't getting saved?
Is it occurring in one specific file or all files? Is your install of Office
fully updated (12.1.5)? Have you followed the suggestions offered in the
other threads your referring to? What was the result?

The only report I've seen in this group is from one particular user re one
particular file involving one particular setting that wouldn't "stick". It's
an acknowledged bug which - AFAIK - has not been corrected. When or if it
will be we have no idea here. This is a peer-to-peer news group, not a MS
"direct access channel" & we have no control over what MacBU focuses on as a
priority. We can report problems but we can do nothing about modifying the
software, nor do they tell us in advance when something will be changed.

If you're having issues other than that one reported bug please provide the
pertinent details & I'm sure someone will be willing to assist if they can.

This is a MAJOR issue. Is it resolved?

This is a "MAJOR issue", yet you're not even sure it exists?

Hmmm.... it's hard to take that too awfully seriously.

Which doesn't mean it isn't a problem, or even a major problem, of
course. Just that your post's wording wasn't especially credible.

MAJOR issues for MacBU tend to be those that get lots of feedback via
Help/Send Feedback... Please add to the queue.

Posting here has a relatively low impact, as it's primarily a
peer-to-peer newsgroup.

I believe the original poster is referring to the fact that print settings
such as paper size don't stick when saving a file in the .xlsx format, then
closing and re-opening a workbook.

For what it's worth, we have heard a lot of feedback on that problem and are
investigating a fix for possible inclusion in a future Office 2008 update.
Unfortunately, I can't commit to a particular time frame for a fix, but we
recognize this is an important problem and are hoping we'll be able fix it.

Thank you Pat. It's at least comforting to know that it is a software fault and not a setting or configuration problem on my end.

For the record, here is the reply I sent to the first response asking for more detail:

"Bob,

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Yes, I'm having the problem of some page settings not saving. I'm still trying to isolate when it occurs, but here's what it looks like now:

It's occurring in many files. I'm working on a series of reports, so it really slows me down.

Excel update is 12.1 15

There were no resolutions that I could find in the forum or elsewhere on the web.

In xlsx files (xls files may be immune but I'm not sure yet), page size keeps returning to letter, scaling often returns to 100%, and print area is cleared.

The settings are retained during the file session, but after save, close, and reopen, they are reset.

Footer settings and margins seem to stick between sessions.

Correction: scaling returns to 100% for xls files also.

Thanks,
Tom..."

Yes. Thanks for the additional information. This is exactly the problem I'm
referring to. The print settings work fine if you save as .xls format, but
not .xlsx format.

We are investigating this now, so hopefully we'll be able to get to the
bottom of it and get a fix for it. Again, I unfortunately can't say when
we'll be able to do so, but we're definitely aware of it.

Thanks,

Pat

Thank you again Pat. Now I know that if I save as xls, the page setting problems should be minimized.

Thanks for the additional information. As you've seen, MacBU does monitor
this group a bit more actively & are aware of the problem. Pat has confirmed
that the fix isn't yet available but you can be sure the problem has their
attention. Hopefully it won't be much longer :)

Thank you Bob. It's good to know that you're watching. Pat provided a work-around, which while not a real solution, gives me enough info to get on with my work.

I'll look forward to the update.
