Page Setup Default

Nancy

Does anyone know how to change the default page setup,
i.e. margins, etc. back to what is was, before I changed
it. I changed the margins for a specific document, hit
default, thinking it would return to the original
default, but it changed them to the margins I had set for
my document. Now all documents I try to create, turn
landscaped rather than vertical. Have tried to reset by
typing in original margin numbers, etc. then hit default,
it asks me if I want it to be the new defaults, I say
Yes, then it comes up with warning message - "increasing
right margin causes last column to become too narrow in
some sections having unevenly spaced columns". OK Even
if I hit OK, the margins don't go back to default. Have
tried reloading software - nothing changed. Am I going
to have to remove my software and reinstall???? What
will happen to all my files? Please help.

Hi, Nancy,

When you clicked the Default button, your changes were saved in the
Normal.dot template that's used to create new blank documents. (Yes, the
word on the button is unfortunate; it should say "Make this the default" or
something like that.)

The situation you're in now is equivalent to the one discussed in
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/BlankDocNotBlank.htm -- there are
unwanted changes in Normal.dot. Follow one of the procedures there; which
one is appropriate depends on whether you have other customizations in that
template that you need to save.

For background on how to make controlled changes in Normal.dot, see
http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Customization/CustomizeNormalTemplate.htm
