Page Setup / Document Format "lockout" dialog box

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have a Word 2008 (on a MacBook OS 10.5.4 with all updates installed) document that will not allow me to change the document formatting, either move margins, use different first page, or any changes under Format>Document...

When I try, I get a dialog box that says: "Settings you chose for the left and right margins, column spacing or paragraph indents are too large for the page width in some sections" and I am only allowed to cancel out of the Format>Document... menu.

I have done my best to check for missing sections, errant paragraph indents, and there are no columns in this doc. I have looked at each line in the Formatting Palette, and nothing seems to take the text near the page size borders. My printer is correctly set in Page Setup, and even if I set it to 8.5X11 borderless, I get the same dialog box.

Help! My only alternative is to completely re-write the document in a new file.

Thanks!
MI

Hi MI -

Before you go to all that trouble I'd suggest you see what happens if you
choose a different printer or select "Any Printer". If that makes any
difference my next step would be to visit the web site of your printer mfr &
see if there is an updated driver.

Should that not prove to be the problem it may be a corrupt document, in
which case you'll find some corrective measures here which should help:

Thanks Bob! That did it. It seemed like a corrupted file, as only this one document, and others made from copies of it, exhibited this behavior.

Copying everything except the last paragraph marker to a new document fixed the problem.

Thanks for the help! All the best to my friends down under.

Regards, Mike I.

Glad it worked out, but - not that I'd object to being one - I'm not one of
the Aussies. In fact, they might be offended were I to be mistaken for one
them :) I'm just a simple Yank.

Sorry John -

Quite right!! You failed the Vegemite Test!!!

But I simply prefer my beer from the top of the vat as opposed to the dregs
at the bottom ;-)

If you confuse Vegemite with beer:

1) You had a REALLY good night last night

2) You need to believe this, because lots of people are about to tell you
otherwise...

3) You WILL regret it. Both things ...

Cheers

Sorry John -

Not confused at all - in fact, that's the point. I love my coffee as well,
but am not too keen on by-products derived from the residuals :)
