Page Setup problems

And another problem (while I'm at it...) for Office x on OS 10.4

I have a very large document which I'm trying to put into the right
layout for publication at the moment. I need to create a new format for
the page setup, because the publisher has very specific (unusual)
sizes. Unfortunately, I've intially specified a false size (I confused
width withe height, so that the page is set up precisely the wrong way
now). But when I try to change the setup now, the whole thing just
doesn't react anymore. I choose a setup, click ok, then I can see that
the document is being repaginated, but afterwards it's precisely in the
same wrong format as before.

I've tried choosing other, predefined, page setups, restarting Word,
restarting the ibook etc. There is just no reaction at all. Everything
else in the document seems to work fine.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

Hi Karina:

That's a corrupt document. You need to "Maggie" it.

1) Create a new blank document (specify the correct page dimensions!) and
save under a new file name.

2) Carefully copy everything except the last paragraph marker.

3) Paste into the new document and save.

If the thing is really bad, and you have multiple sections, you may need to
delete all the section breaks before copying to get this process to work.

Afterwards, inspect the document and fix any formatting damage -- there will
be some.

Cheers

Since applying the 11.2.5 update to Office I'm experiencing a problem
with Page Setup on all documents (even brand new ones) where I go to
Page Setup, change the document size, and precisely nothing happens.
The document just stays the same size. There is normally a bit of a
"ripple" in the text as if it is being reflowed, but that's as far as
it goes. I can't find any way of changing this behaviour, so many of my
documents are now ending up defaulting to US Letter rather than A4
size. Most infuriating - and pretty much unworkable. Any clues from
anyone? Other behaviour seems fine after the update.

Chance are that the "Default" setup was thrown out and new one created.

Try this and see if it helps.

Open a Blank page. Now immediately go to page setup and choose A4 as
your desired page size.

Next type a letter or word and save the document. at some point you'll
get a message something like. do you wish to save changes in default?

answer yes. Quit word and throw away the dummy file you just created its
no longer needed.

Now open Word and immediately go to page setup. Should show A4. If so
your ready.
