page sizes and margins

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to work out what's going on with a Word file I've been sent.
As I scroll through the pages, it looks like each alternate page is a
different width. When I click on file > page setup to check the page
size on each of the different pages, it says it's A4. Would anyone know
why the page width looks different?

Also as I look at the page there seems to be a big space to the right
of the page, as if there was a large right margin, but the thing is
that the margin on the right is only minimal so this doesn't account
for the white space to the right. I'm viewing the document in page
layout view. Anyone also know what's causing this?

Would really appreciate any help.

Hello -

For starters:

Are you actually _clicking_ on a page before checking Page Setup, or just
scrolling to _view_ it? If your insertion point doesn't move you are
checking the same page's dimensions each time.

Two possibilities come to mind right off the bat...
1) The content could be in a Table, even if the Borders are turned off - try
clicking in the text, then go to Table>Gridlines to see if they show up,
2) The lines could have manual returns rather than regular paragraph
wrapping. Turn on the non-printing characters (¢Ò button on the toolbar) and
see if those marks or ? marks appear at the end of the lines of text.

Should this info not be helpful, there must be something very weird going
on. If you post back, be sure to mention what version of Word and where the
document was 'sent' from.
