Page splits in Word Mac 2004

When an offsite user mentioned this issue, I thought she just had
page layout turned on, but if you look to the far right of the image
here

there are slivers of pages that appear randomly and the user has to
quit out of Word to get rid of them.

It doesn't appear to be any of the layouts. Any ideas of next steps?

If it's just one document, I'd suggest maggie-ing it:

Turn on the Show/Hide button in the Standard Toolbar (that has the
pilcrow symbol). Copy everything except the last paragraph mark. Paste
it into a fresh document.
