Page X of Y does not work

Jackk

I've used the auto text 'page X of Y' for many years and never had an
problems. Just recently I've noticed that whereas on screen th
numbers appear to be correct (e.g., on a 2-page document, I get 'Page
of 2' on page 1 and 'Page 2 of 2' on page 2), but when I print, on pag
1 I get 'Page 1 of 1'. I tried longer documents and it seems tha
somehow the total number of pages ("Y") is actually equal to th
"X"--even though on screen everything looks fine.
The documents in questions dont' have any sections, just plai
documents... and I haven't installed any additional printer!

I'd appreciate very much any suggestions, as I've run out of ideas!

Thanks!!!

Doug Robbins - Word MVP - DELETE UPPERCASE CHARACT

Hi Jack,

This is something that appears to have been broken by one of the security
patches.

See the article “Page X of Y displays or prints as Page 1 of 1, Page 2 of 2
etc.” at:

You've got the page X of Y bug from a security update and
as far as I know Microsoft have no fix for it. One work-
around you could try is to select "reverse print order"
in the Print / Options dialogue box.

I would like to thank you very much for you help! I switched into Prin
Previe and back as well as I cleared the check box for Backgroun
Printing--and lo and behold, it prints correctly! And by the way--yes
a couple of weeks ago I did update MS Word.
