PAGEREF using "on page" option reverts to English when updated

This is a long shot as it's not purely a VBA question, but maybe someone here
has localization experience.

We use (or want to use) the PAGEREF field with the \p switch. This switch
causes the result to change from "on page 99" to "above" or "below" depending
on whether the target is on the same page.

When we get a document back that has been translated into Latvian the field
result is fine. But if we update the fields (even if only by using PDFMaker)
the result is changed from the Latvian text for "on page" to the English text.

I'd like to know where Word is getting (or failing to get) the translated
material so we can install it on the required machines and update fields with
wild abandon without fear of corrupting them with English.

Any ideas? I'm thinking it's either a system level resource or perhaps the
Microsoft Office 2000 Proofing Tools? And where can I get whatever's needed?

Hi Bear,
This is a long shot as it's not purely a VBA question, but maybe someone here

Have you also asked this in the general questions or spelling group? That's the
more likely place...

How about locking the fields (select, then Ctrl+F11)? If all you're doing is
"printing", locking them shouldn't matter?

2000 is a pretty old version, you might have difficulties finding the proofing
tools. At least, I think they're all on a single CD (as I recall, that was the
first version that combined all proofing tools into one package). I think that
this kind of thing is a combination of the language formatting of the text plus
proofing tools for that language being present. Whether it also depends on the
language of the UI the document is opened in I can't remember, but I don't think
so.

Cindy:

Thanks. I will try posting in the General and Spelling sections.

Further experiments have convinced me that the problem is induced because
the machine doing the updating doesn't have the Latvian spelling and proofing
tools installed. I'm just wondering if there's anywhere to find the MS Office
kit for 2000 any more, and if it's worth the trouble, or whether I should
seriously consider a redesign of our x-refs.
