pages out of order

Steve Russell

I just printed my document with mirror margins, running
the odd pages thru first. I put the paper back in the
printer tray, set "Print:" to Even pages, checked "Reverse
print order" under "Options", and printed.

The result is that the even pages are on the left, and the
odd are on the right, e.g., page 32 on left, page 31 on
right. In fact, every sheet is showing consecutive
numbers, 32 and 31, 28 and 27, 22 and 21. . . .

What went wrong???????

I forgot to mention that I created the document in Word
2002 and opened it in Word 97 SR-2 on another machine,
printing from there.

No, you *don't* need to set the starting page number. I just thought that
perhaps if the document started on page 2, or there was some discontinuity
between sections, this might be an issue. Are you using the technique
described at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Formatting/BookletPrinting.htm
(sounds like it)? What version of Word? You're not trying to combine this
with "Book fold," I trust?

Yes, I am following the directions in your link. No, I'm not trying
anything with the painful Boof fold at the moment.

But I just finished a successful run, as far as I can tell, and the problem
was in using reverse print order. I wonder if you wrote that article with a
printer in mind that ejected paper to the top of the stack.

This is Word 2002.

Suzanne, you have guided me through the process of creating booklets, and I
very much appreciate it. I will stick with your method!

THANK YOU!

Usually, though, if you set "Reverse print order" in Word, you get regular
print order from the printer. It really shouldn't matter which you do first,
but you could reverse the print order on the first pass and then not on the
second, which would make it the same as from a laser that outputs face down.
Or you could do even pages first and then odd. None of this should make any
difference.
