Pagination madness - help, pls!

I'm making a Word (Office 2000) document with two sections. The first
section is just 2 pages with 2 columns each, the second section uses Susan's
trick for making a folded booklet with the half-page gutter. (The first
section is the cover!) I'm trying to start pagination on the first page of
the second section, but page numbers keep appearing back on the Section 1
pages as well. How can I put a "1" in the footer of Section 2, Page 1
without the 'retro' pagination?

I would strongly advise you to make the cover a separate file, but if you
insist on doing it this way, you need to turn off "Same as Previous" in the
Section 2 footer before removing the page number from Section 1; see
