Hi

I've created a new word document that is 49 pages long and has images and tables in it. I've used both page and section breaks in it as necessary. Up to around page 20 it's not too bad but then it slows down to a near halt as it keeps repaginating constantly. While sat watching it flick through the paginations at the bottom of the screen, it seems to be repeating itself over and over quite a few times lasting for around 5 mins or more in some cases. I don't know why it does this or how i can stop it but it's making the document unworkable. Can anyone help me on this?

What you describe is symptomatic of corruption in the document - quite
possibly associated with the the page breaks if you forced them manually.
Section breaks & tables can also be contributing factors depending on how
the document has been constructed.

Follow the suggestions here after you make a backup copy:

Further to Bob's comments, take a look at 'Appendix A: The main "minimum
maintenance" features of my documents' starting on page 164 of some notes on
the way I use Word for the Mac, titled "Bend Word to Your Will", which are
available as a free download from the Word MVPs' website
(http://word.mvps.org/Mac/Bend/BendWordToYourWill.html). You can save a
*huge* amount of time and nuisance that way.

[Note: "Bend Word to your will" is designed to be used electronically and
most subjects are self-contained dictionary-style entries. If you decide to
read more widely than the item I've referred to, it's important to read the
front end of the document -- especially pages 3 and 5 -- so you can select
some Word settings that will allow you to use the document effectively.]
