Pagination Puzzles - MORE!

An incredible "puzzle": upon deleting ONE line of text in page 28 of an
38-page document this is what happened: a page-counter at the lower
left-hand side of the screen "went crazy" and counted 4,750 pages in few
seconds, the time it took me to click the right side of the mouse --the only
move "accepted" by the counter to stop. What is this? How to avoid it? The
problem is, right now, how to resume the text revision without the crazy
counter kicking on again (I tried, and the ghost is still there). Thanks!

The usual cause for this sort of problem is some sort of document corruption
(see http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm), but check the
paragraph formatting to make sure that you don't have all the paragraphs set
to "Keep with next." Other problems that cause "infinite repagination"
involve tables, especially, IIRC, those with graphics anchored to them.

Thanks, Suzanne. I did not know it was a matter of file corruption.
Unfortunately, the solutions are not working:
I followed your first suggestion; I also printed out Dave-John's article
and followed their recommendations.
Not only I am unable to remove the anchor and the 4,000+ pages, but also,
and mainly, to stop the "infinite pagination". I did find where the
"corruption" may be: at the end of page 28. But there is no formatting sign
or other mark to identify what is at the end of page 28 --the next one is
page 4,000+.
Can you help me further?

You could see "WD2000: Troubleshooting Damaged Documents" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211634, but it suggests pretty much the
same thing as the article I pointed you to. If you have Word 2002, you can
try "Open and Repair" (see "WD2002: Troubleshooting Damaged Documents" at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=290932).

Hi Sanvi,

Another option, especially if you have installed OpenOffice anyway:
The OpenOffice Writer can sometimes open docs with a slight corruption.

Klaus
