Painfully slow save as!

I am running office 2003. When I use "save as" and then pull down the file
location box it takes forever to see any of my directories (30+ seconds). It
continues to be slow for each sub-directory that I click on. I have
reinstalled 2003, scanned for updates, and did an extensive search on the web
for an answer. Unfortunately, it seems that others who have this problem
haven't found an answer to date.

Double-click the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop, and disconnect any
mapped network drives that are not currently available.

All of my network droves are connected and accessible, but I have the same
problem. Any other ideas, please?
