Palm and Entourage

Hi everyone,

I have seen this discussed previously, but non of those seems to
address the symptoms I am facing. I have a new Palm Tungsten E2 that I
am attempting to sync with my Ti Powerbook (OS 10.3.9, Office 2004).
When I HotSync nothing happens, so I went into the HotSync Manager to
try and turn on syncing to the "New" Palm applications. However, when I
click on the Entourage Conduit from within the conduit settings,
nothing happens. I tried reinstalling the Handheld Sync package but get
a message that says Microsoft Compenent Plug-in was not found.

After looking around I found Mircrosoft Compenent Plug-in in the right
folder, but it comes up as a Netscape Navigator document (?) . As
suggested in previous discussions I tried running the Service Pack 1
update, but that gives me a message saying that the correct version of
Office could not be found on my computer.

Any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
the "missing Microsoft component" message indicates that you've downloaded
the Handheld Sync Installer from the Microsoft Mac website, but that
installer applies to Office v.X only. Also, the fact that you can see this
updater as a Netscape document seems to indicate that the download didn't
finish correctly, but that's just a wild guess.
Since you're using Office 2004, you'll need to run the installer that is
located in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools. That being
said, there are a couple of things in your post that are confusing: you're
saying that you've found the installer "in the right folder": which one
would that be? Also, you seem to be unable to run the SP1 updater; did you
use the Microsoft AutoUpdate application in your Applications folder? And
could it not be that you've already unknowingly installed the service pack?
Check if your Office programs all have a version number which starts with
"11.1"; if so, then the service pack has already been applied.

Hi,

Using the instaler you suggested everything works now. However, the
Microsoft Component Plugin (located in Applications/Microsoft Office
2004/Office) still shows up as a Navigator document. Is this an issue
to be concerned about? The Palm works fine now though.

That should not be an issue. Try repairing your disk permissions with Disk
Utility (located in Applications/Utilities), this might solve the problem.
If it doesn't, and if your Palm and Office are working as they should, I
would simply ignore the problem. Maybe someone else can help you out on this
one, if it's really bothering you.
