Palm & Exchange Compatibility

Hi there,

From what I have read both here and elsewhere, you cannot use BCM when using
Exchange Server and cannot synch with a Palm Pilot.

Is this correct?

Microsoft officially does not support using BCM with an Outlook profile that
includes an Exchange account, unless that account is on a Small Business
Server 2003 machine and you have installed the corresponding patch for BCM
from http://support.microsoft.com/?id=831747. If you add a BCM database to a
profile that includes Exchange from any other environment, the next time you
start Outlook, BCM will remove the database from the profile. However, as
described at http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/bcm.htm, it is possible to
install the patch and then hack the registry to make BCM work with a profile
that contains Exchange even if it isn't SBS 2003.

Hi Sue,

Your name pops up everywhere when I search for Outlook information - thanks
so much for taking the time to answer my question. I guess it isn't what my
client should use, as he has a computer here in Montreal that is hooked up to
head office in the States and making any types of changes may not sit well
with them.

I had tried Avidian Prophet, but it doesn't always work as it should. It
seems to be a real problem for my clients who wish to track client
interaction. I can certainly show them the activites that have taken place
for each individual client, but it becomes much more cumbersome when you wish
to see activities for a group of clients, or when you wish to, for example,
enter a phone call via the Journal, then schedule a follow-up call with a
reminder set.

Any suggestions?

Also, I'm still wondering for another client if her Palm Pilot can be
synchronized with BCM. She is a real estate agent who really needs this
feature, so if not it won't be the product for her either.

My experience is that everybody wants something slightly different from a
CRM. That's why there are so many of them --
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/contact_management.htm. I wouldn't begin to
make a recommendation without hours of research into the user's needs and
all the latest versions.

A Palm sync tool that can handle multiple Outlook contact folders should be
able to sync with BCM. Other people in this forum follow that issue far more
closely than I do, though.

Yes, Chapura makes a Palm PIM replacement that will synch to some extent
with BCM. http://www.chapura.com/keysuite.php

It is ironic, but you can currently get better Outlook synchronization to a
Palm OS device than to a Pocket PC with 3rd party programs like this. I'm
hoping that will change with the next version of Pocket PC due out this
year...
