Palm T5 and Entourage

J

Jeremy

Just got a Palm tungsten T5 . After much time with Palm tech support, I am
able to Sync, but not with Entourage. They claim to be working on a conduit
for Entourage that will be ready in a few months. I was wondering if anyone
here has had any success. Thanks-Jeremy

Download and install the latest Office 2004 update, which is Office 2004
Service Pack 1. Service Pack 1 includes a number of fixes that are
documented in this article on the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
<http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883951>

In Office 2004, use Microsoft AutoUpdate to get the latest updates. From
any Office application, go to Help > Check for Updates (or manually launch
Microsoft AutoUpdate from the Applications folder). If any updates are
needed, they will display in a sheet, at which point you can check them and
press the "Install" button to download and install them.

Updates can also be found at the Microsoft web site:

To avoid accidental data loss, synchronization between Entourage 2004 and
palmOne's new handhelds is turned off by default. Follow this procedure to
turn on synchronization after both Palm synchronization software and the
Microsoft Handheld Synchronization software have been installed:
1. Launch the HotSync Manager application (usually located in
HD/Applications/Palm)
2. Under the HotSync menu, choose Conduit Settings.
3. Double-click the "Entourage Conduit" entry.
4. Near the bottom, check the option to "Enable synchronization with these
new handhelds."
5. Click OK.

The handhelds that are affected by this issue are the ones that have
"Organizer Plus," including Zire 31, Zire 72, Tungsten E, Tungsten T3, and
Tungsten T5.

Palm released a patch for the PIM functions of those machines (except the
T5, it predates that device) a while back.

Are the incompatibilities mentioned on that page related to the ones that
the Entourage conduit is going on about? If so, does Palm's patch allow the
Entourage conduit to work properly?

Cheers,

Chris

Only for Palm Desktop.

Entourage's conduit goes on working as before; it does not sync the new
features of Palm OS 5 (second postal address, event categories, etc.) - and
if you update the items in Entourage they will then sync back to Palm losing
the added fields you may have entered on the Palm. Not a good idea. You have
to avoid the extra fields on the Palm to be safe.

Darn :-(

But thanks for clarifying!
