How can I pan and zoom across an i,age in Power Point?

I want to the image shown on screen, while panning & zooming across the image
.... especially for panoramic composite photos.
I'm putting together a slide show presentation from a backpacking trip this
Summer. I was hoping to use Powerpoint to include additional information
during the discussion and viewing of images, plus the ease of pausing whiling
speaking about the trip.
I may need to create a DVD presentation for the program instead?

Thanks for any input.

I am using PP 2003. I do a lot of animating whiled zoomed in. Is there any way to pan using the mouse wheel. I know CRTL + wheel will zoom, is there a way to define SHIFT + wheel or ATL + wheel to pan left to right while editing? Thanks

The mouser software is probably your best bet for an easy solution. I have
a MS IntelliMouse that allows me to push the mouse scroll wheel left/right
and the zoomed area of the screen will pan accordingly. I love the mouse,
but hate the keyboard. Oh well, can't have everything.

Look at the mice available at your local computer store. If you can't find
anything there, here is the one I use.

That's what I thought. I was hoping there was a add-in that would let me
hotkey Shift + Mouse wheel to pan side to side. This is a for a work
computer that I am not an admin for, so I might get away with installing an
add-in, but even if I had the mouse, I couldn't load the drivers to utilize
it (unless there is a way to run the mouse software portably off a USB
drive). Thanks again for your time.
